03 5.3L burban + LS7 Cam and springs?

Ok, so I bought this 03 Burban to haul my family for snowy days and haul my boat down to the lake.  Unfortunately it only has a small 5.3L and I have a problem, I can't leave well enough alone.

So I picked up a LS7 Cam and springs to install.  See differences between the cams/engines below.

5.3 LM7
190/191 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.466" / 0.457" int/exh lift
114 LSA
Rockers = 1:1.7(?)
Chambers = 61cc
Valves = 1.89"/1.55" int/exh
96mm Bore

7.0L LS7
230/211 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
117 lsa
0.591""/0.591" int/exh lift
Rockers = 1:1.8
Chambers = 70
Valves = 2.20"/1.61" int/exh
104.8mm Bore

So what do you think my end result will be when I install this cam and springs into my 5.3L.  Will I have enough PVC or will they hit?  Also, how much power can I stand to gain from doing a cam/springs only install on a the lowly 5.3L? 
Thoughts?

i thought the ls7 had that vvt or what ever type of cam? or is that the ls3 and l92s? in anycase its going to be a big dick cam for that lil 327.. i say do it i think ptv should be ok.. whats the cc on a stock 5.3 head? about the same on a ls1?

Chamber sizing

Stock 5.3L is 61cc

Stock LS7 is 70cc

Stock Ls1 is 68cc

im just gunna take a wild guess and say ur clearance will be tight, but should work. remember a 5.3 is just a de-bored LS1,  same stroke 6.125 so the short blocks are identical minus 3mm of bore differemce.  just tighter heads/less flow, and more restrictive intake.

is that all your gunna do it that huge cam? exhaust? LS style intake swap?

you'll be ok as far as ptv goes.  i run a 232/240 .610 112lsa cam in my 5.3.  i may be wrong but aren't the cams different from gen3 and gen4? like cam position sensor in the back?

i'm gonna make a suggestion to you just cuz i know it works and that would be get a comp 212/218 .522/.529 114lsa cam...the hr265 i believe.  excellent cam for the heavier vehicles, makes great power and torque

Yeah, I am still checking to make sure the LS7 cam will work in the 5.3 block, to that maybe a problem.

I will probably do some exhaust, but no LS intake swap.  Not enough power yield vs money.  I will probably do a cam, springs, headers, and some free flowing exhaust to help it breath.  its a drive by wire setup so swapping intake and throttle body cost more then the power they produce.  Besides, I m not going outrageous on this build, just a little bump to help the pulling power.  Im saving my pennies for the next "real" build I have in the works.  These are just small upgrades for the burban.

Anyone have the Comp 212/218 .522/.529 114 lsa cam (hr265) they would like to sell me?

you can probably find one used for $200 or so...

i'm pretty sure you're going to have trouble getting the ls7 cam to work...it's just a 2bolt cam right?  and no the LS intake wouldn't be worth your trouble...loss of low end on that big bitch definitely isn't what you're after ;D

Hey tobin.  PTV clearance will be fine on that cam...

230/211  .591 .591 117lsa   is a pretty hefty cam  230 intake durration is pretty big..   I feel you will loose some low rpm Tq from that cam,   and only gain after 3000 rpms.   

Phantom is correct you might want to stick with a cam, somewhere in the 220 range,   and 114 to 115 lsa, as that will provide good Tq down low.

I would say E-max cam  224/228  .610 .590 115LSA +2,  but it seems med range and kinda peaky as well.

I wonder what the stock springs are good for, as far as lift that is?? ???

the stock springs you have now?  they're not good for anything over stock lift.  get you some yellow z06 springs for like $50.  they're good to .570 lift.  they go real nice with that cam i suggested...i really advise you to stay away from comp 918s...i'll make a post why in a few min

Did you see the lift on that cam?  The lift is almost .600"

This is the reason I would think that the stock LS7 Springs would be good and reliable to at least .600" on any cam, otherwise I don't see why they would match them up with that LS7 cam that maintains the .591" of lift.

I seen your other thread, no way I will every buy COMP 918 springs after seeing what you have to endure to put your truck back together.

If you need a stock piston to just get it back on the road, I have access to a stock 5.3L piston & rings, actually 8 of them, and I also have an extra set of 5.3L heads, LS1 Heads, and some other stuff I am sure.

Let me know if you need any parts I may have listed for you.

Oh ok I thought you meant your stock springs on your suburban.

Thanks but I'm good to go now. That 918 thread was what actually led to us building the turbo kit. My motor is just fine now!
